What Is Energy?

Energy is the capacity to do work — the force behind everything that moves, heats, lights, and powers the modern world.

Energy cannot be created or destroyed, only converted between forms. It exists in two broad categories:

Potential

Stored energy that an object holds because of its position.

Chemical Mechanical Nuclear Gravitational
Kinetic

The energy of motion — carried by anything that is moving.
